Our Warranty Promise

Shopping with Bartons should give you peace of mind. We stand by the quality of our products and offer a guarantee against defects in workmanship and materials to the original purchaser.

The warranty period for each product begins on the date of your original tax invoice and varies depending on the product's quality and price.

The Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA)

Our warranty is in addition to your rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA). This law provides you with a number of guarantees, ensuring that the goods you buy from us are of acceptable quality and fit for their intended purpose.

You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure doesn't amount to a major failure. For full details on your consumer rights, please visit the official Consumer Protection website: www.consumerprotection.govt.nz.

What Our Warranty Covers

Our guarantee covers manufacturing defects that occur due to faulty workmanship or materials. If a defect appears during your warranty period, we may need to conduct an in-home inspection to determine if a manufacturing fault exists.

What Is Not Covered

Our warranty does not cover:

  • Normal wear and tear, such as the softening of foam and fillings, or the natural fading and creasing of leathers and fabrics over time.

  • Natural characteristics of materials like wood and leather, including variations in grain, color, scars, and marks.

  • Minor variations in size or weight (up to 5%) for handmade upholstered products.

  • Damage caused by improper use or care, including spills from corrosive materials, ink, or paint; improper cleaning; exposure to sun, extreme heat, or bright light; or negligence.

  • Mattresses: normal contouring less than 10% of the mattress height, odors from new foam, or damage from using an improper bed base (including slats spaced more than 6cm apart).

  • Products used for commercial purposes. Our warranty is for products used for normal domestic purposes and is not transferable.

Please remember that it is your responsibility to care for your furniture. You can find detailed instructions on our Furniture Care page. Failure to follow these guides may result in damage and could void your warranty.

How to Make a Claim

If you believe a product is defective, please follow these steps to make a warranty claim:

  1. Stop using the product immediately once the defect appears.

  2. Notify Bartons within 7 days after the defect appears.

  3. Provide a copy of your original sales order or tax invoice.

You can lodge a claim by emailing us or filling out the form on this page. Once we receive your claim, we will assess it and get back to you with a solution within a reasonable timeframe.

Returning a Product

If you need to return a product, you are responsible for the cost of returning it to us if you originally picked it up or have moved out of the district.

However, if an item is faulty and the cost of returning it would be significant to you, and you paid for the original delivery, we will arrange for the goods to be collected from you at our expense within a reasonable timeframe.
